DIY Glass Jar Rope Decoration
I wanted to try something new this week and had just three basic supplies on hand that have now turned into this gorgeous glass jar decoration!
I wasn’t so sure at first what to do with the supplies but once I played around with a few ideas, it just clicked and that’s how this glass tutorial tutorial came about!
Honestly, I’m pretty happy with it.
If you have a glass jar, some rope, and jute fabric, you’re in for a fantastic DIY project that is quick and easy to make.
Things I love about this DIY project:
- It’s so easy and simple to make. Even the kids can join along!
- A great way to recycle and reuse old glass jars.
- Results in a beautiful decoration for your home decor.
- You can create a handmade piece you’ll be proud to show off!
This tutorial took me about 10-15 minutes in total to complete. There was quite a bit of gluing involved, but it was worth spending every minute on this craft.

Instructions
Step 1: Cover The Jar
Place the glass jar on the jute/Burlap fabric and measure out a square to cover the bottom half of the glass jar. Then, cut the fabric.
Step 2: Apply Glue To Jar
Use hot glue or clear glue to apply a generous coating to the bottom of the jar to attach the fabric.
Step 3: Cover The Sides
Place the glass jar directly in the middle of the cut fabric piece and hold it down until it feels secure. Then, apply the glue to the edge of the fabric piece and glue it to the sides of the glass jar.
Step 4: Create The Rope Pattern
Grab a piece of rope and apply a small amount of glue to the edge. Then stick the rope onto the jar in this curved pattern, covering the fabric and the glass jar. Continue following this curved pattern until the entire jar is covered.
Step 5: Cut The Rope
When you reach the end, cut the rope and glue it to the first end to create a continuous flow. You can also add a small amount of glue to the edge of that cut rope to tidy up any stray ends.
Step 6: Embellish With Beads
Let’s add a luxurious flair to your glass jar decoration! For this tutorial, I used these lovely shiny pearl beads. You could also go with seashells, glass beads, rhinestones, or any fancy trim.
Step 7: Glue The Beads
Apply a dot of glue to random places on the jar and glue the pearl beads.
I wanted to keep things simple so I added a few beads where necessary.
Of course, you can fill the entire fabric or jar with pearl beads if you want something more detailed.
And you’re done!
The final result:
There you have it! A simple, elegant, and interesting way to transform a glass jar or bottle into a wonderful glass jar rope decoration for your home decor.

Q&A:
Can I paint the glass jar?
Yes! You can paint the glass jar before gluing the jute/burlap fabric. I recommend using white glass, spray, or acrylic paint because it will naturally draw more attention to the brown rope and cloth. Also, depending on the quality of your paint, you might need to apply multiple coats of paint for an even better finish.
What else can I use to decorate the glass jar?
Rope, tape, twine, beads, seashells, ribbons, or paint can be a great alternative. There are so many creative ways to go about it. If you’re following this tutorial, you can swap out the pearl beads for seashells instead or wrap a few layers of twine around the top of the glass jar for an elegant flower holder.
What can I put in the glass jar?
Flowers look amazing in this decorated glass jar but you could place a battery-operated mini candle and watch how your space lights up in the dark! Alternatively, use this glass jar to store supplies, junk items, pens and markers, or leave the glass jar empty.
