What Can I Hang From My Ceiling? (13 Smart Ideas)
The other day I was looking around my room and trying to think of a way to make it look better.
There are only so many things you can hang on your bedroom walls before the space starts to look overcrowded but then I remembered seeing this fantastic idea of hanging something from your ceiling.
So I did some research and came across so many ideas that I think you will also find valuable.
To give you a quick idea, you can hang many things from your ceiling such as a hanging pot plant, terrariums in fancy globes, wreaths, a chandelier, a statement lamp, beaded wall dividers or other brilliant options like hanging a canopy or even a hammock.
There are a lot more options you can choose from that may spark your creativity and get you excited.
I’ve put together this guide to share with you everything that I’ve discovered while looking at things to hang from your ceiling.
Table of Contents
Things To Hang From Your Room Ceiling
1. Pot Plants
The easiest and cheapest item you can hang from your ceiling is a pot plant. It’s also one that will immediately liven up the room decor.
You can go for either a faux plant if you don’t want to spend the time maintaining a real plant but adding a real plant would be much nicer for the overall look even though it may require attention from time to time.
Installing a hanging pot plant isn’t difficult either. Here’s a video by Bunnings Warehouse to show you exactly how you can go about it:
2. Terrariums in globes
I’ve seen this idea popping up on Pinterest quite often and I think it’s super cute. You can buy glass globes, a container, or clear round pots and place a terrarium in each of them.
Then attract a string that can handle the weight and attach it to hang from the ceiling.
Create at least 2-3 of these terrariums in globes and you can vary the length of each globe to create a stunning display.
3. Canopy
If you want to add a fairytale feel to your room decor, install a canopy made from white chiffon material. Add a garland of faux leaves around the top of the canopy to make it more visually pleasing.
4. Hammock
Technically, you can’t hang a hammock from your ceiling but I included this option because it will make your space more unique.
If you have the means and available space in your room, try installing a hammock.
You can get a string hammock or a patterned hammock depending on the overall theme of your room decor.
Hammocks aren’t for everyone but if you want a small space in your room where you can relax and unwind, then this may be a good investment for you.
5. Wreath or Ball of Faux Flowers
Here’s another quick and easy option you can go that will hardly cost anything really.
You can grab a cheap wreath from the dollar store and decorate it to your liking or if you’re up for a fun diy project, grab a styrofoam ball and a few faux flowers which you can then attach a string to it and hang from your ceiling to create a beautiful wall of flowers.
6. Paper birds On A String
If the previous option sounded fun, then you’ll most likely enjoy this one too. Have you tried origami before?
This option entails folding a few paper birds and attaching them to a string, leaving a space between each bird on the string.
Create a few of these bird garlands and you can hang them from your ceiling for an amazing colorful effect.
7. Statement Lamp
Every room needs at least one fancy light to brighten up the place to create a specific mood and feeling.
Choose a statement lamp that stands out the most to you and hang it from your ceiling.
Also, pick an area in your room, whether that’s above your bed or in the center of the room, to hang this statement lamp.
It will do an amazing job of making your room decor look incredible without putting much effort into it.
8. Mason Light Fixture
Mason jars have been popular for a long time now and continue to do so. But have you seen mason jar light fixtures before?
This simple decor piece can instantly make your room look trendy and exquisite with this rich detail.

10. Chandelier
This one may be over the top but it can make a room look better if it’s not already overcrowded in any way.
If your bedroom is barely decorated with any accessories, adding a fancy chandelier is the best way to instantly make the room look great.
Even though chandeliers can be extravagant, there are a few that are simple in design as well.
So keep a lookout for those depending on what kind of chandelier you want.
11. A Floating Nightstand
I’ve recently come across this idea after browsing for nightstands and this is one which you can make yourself or purchase below.

You can install this awesome wooden floating nightstand that hangs from the ceiling to the side of your bed.

12. Beaded Wall Dividers
Dividing your room into a smaller section is possible with a beaded wall divider. You can hang them from the ceiling depending on the area which you need to section off.
This is especially useful if you’re sharing a room with someone else but you want your space separated to get a small sense of privacy.
13. Wind Chime
The last option you can try is hanging a wind chime.
It’s best to hang it near a window so that when the wind or a draft hits, it will make a beautiful noise.
There are wind chimes that won’t make any noise but these are great if you want to add something small to your bedroom room that will change things up and won’t cost much.
Conclusion
There are plenty of things you can hang from the ceiling that will improve the way your room looks and feels.
By just adding one or two of the ideas listed above, it will uplift the room decor in unexpected ways.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a good idea to include all of these items as this will be overkill but just a few will do the trick.
You can also combine a few of these ideas together like the hanging pot plants which may go with the hammock or perhaps the string lights can be used along with the terrariums globes.
Think of putting a creative spin on each of these ideas to suit your needs and I’m sure you’ll be able to put together a fantastic decor with creative accessories.
