How To Make A Button Coaster
Do you love making coasters? Honestly, I can’t stop. They’re so easy to make and it’s a great way to add something new and charming to your space every so often.
I recently created this quick 5-minute coaster you can make using buttons and a round wooden board.
I also had an entire bag of buttons that were going to waste so what better way to make use of them than in a creative and fun way, right?
I felt like this project was a great way to relax, unwind, and have some creative fun without overthinking or stressing about the outcome or creating the perfect decor piece, despite all the gluing involved!
So, if you’re looking for a quick, fun, and easy project, this DIY button coaster is definitely one you should try making.
Here’s what you need to get started:
Supplies
- Round Wooden Coaster (You can also use a square coaster)
- Glue (Clear or White)
- Buttons
Instructions
To get started on your button coaster, grab the biggest round button you can find and add a generous coating of glue to the back of it.
Glue that button in the center of the round board.
Then glue a few smaller clear/white round buttons around that big button in the middle.
And I’m sure by now you know how this goes.
Fill up the entire board with a variety of different buttons. You can use buttons that vary in size and color for an interesting look.
You might have to squeeze in a few smaller buttons towards the edge to help fill up the board.
And that’s about it. Now all you have to do is wait for the glue to dry.
If you don’t like how the brown wooden board shows through, consider giving the wide board a coating of white acrylic paint before you begin gluing the buttons and this should work great.
Since this is a coaster, use flat buttons so the cup won’t wobble or sit unevenly.
If this coaster is just for decorative purposes, you can use just about anything you like.
This is just a small craft you can do in a few minutes or so but it’s also enjoyable at the same time.

I also have a video version of making this coaster and 2 other fun coasters if you’d prefer to watch the entire process from start to finish. You can check it out below:
It’s nothing too complicated or difficult to follow along.
