I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting home decor trends that are surfacing and one in particular that keeps drawing my attention is aesthetic rooms.

Its cozy and creative vibe calls out to me and after browsing a few catalogs of aesthetic room decor ideas, I made the decision to take the leap and turn my current room into an aesthetic heaven.

But like with every new decor style, there’s quite a bit of detail and information you need to acquire to make sure everything is in place.

The one question that kept popping up in my mind is what do you really need for an aesthetic room?

To create an aesthetic room, you will need to have a few of the essential accessories. This includes fluffy blankets, oversized pillows and throws, clean and light colors for the walls, round poufs, floating shelves, string lights, and a bed canopy if you want to go all out. There are a few other items to include that will complete the look and those are candles, a framed wall picture display, statement lights, and a large mirror among others.

If you’d like to browse the full list of things you will need for an aesthetic room, I’ve compiled an entire guide with pictures and ideas you can use to get started and draw inspiration from to create your own personalized aesthetic room.

Things You Need To Create An Aesthetic Room

To make this guide well organized, I have divided the things you need into sections according to specific areas in the room.

Please note that you do not need all of the items listed below to achieve the look of an aesthetic room but you can pick the ones you like the most to incorporate them into your current decor to make it feel more aesthetically pleasing.

For the Bed

The first thing we’ll take a look at is the bed. This is typically the highlighted area of the room and most of the attention is drawn to this area.

Aesthetic Room Decor Ideas

1. Pillows of Different Sizes

A common item you will find in almost all aesthetic rooms is pillows of different sizes, patterns, and colors.

This is a great way if you want to add bulk to the room without making it look crowded. You can arrange these pillows on the bed or place them on the couch or chair.

2. Oversized Knitted Throw

This is optional but you may want to consider an oversized knitted throw on the bed during winter as this can make your room cozier.

A few rooms choose to have a knitted throw but this is more so a personal choice.

If you don’t want to buy one since they can be expensive, you may try following a tutorial to make your own for much less but grabbing a throw like this one below will be well worth it!

3. Fluffy Blanket

Alternatively, you can consider having a fluffy blanket instead. This will keep the appeal of an aesthetic room intact and it’s way cheaper than a knitted throw.

4. Patterned Bedding

The next item you’ll want to consider is what kind of bedding you want.

Here you can choose to go for a full patterned bedding or plain bedding in one shade and use a fluffy blanket and patterned pillows to make it interesting.

5. Canopy

If you want to achieve that total aesthetic/fairytale vibe, installing a canopy for your bed with a thin white material will definitely do the job.

However, I will only suggest you do this if you have a large-sized room as with a small-sized room, this may make your room feel even more cramped.

For The Floors

Now we’ll move on to the floors. The floors are simple and depending on what floors you already have, you can work with that and just add one of the items below:

1. Fluffy Carpets

If there’s one common theme in the majority of aesthetic rooms is a fluffy item.

If you already have a fluffy blanket, then there’s no need for a fluffy carpet but having a fluffy carpet will complete the overall look.

2. Wooden Floors

This option is not necessary but it may enhance the overall aesthetic and that’s installing wooden floors but this is a costly job.

You can look into peel and stick tiles that might be easier to install but give off the same vibe.

3. Round Pouf

If you have the space for this, you can try including a large size round pouf to sit on. This can be arranged near the bed or be used as a nightstand.

For The Walls

Decorating the walls is an important factor in achieving an aesthetic room. Here’s what you need to do when it comes to the walls:

1. Floating Shelves

Installing a few floating shelves are a great way to display a few of your treasured accessories, books, and plants. They save on space and make the walls look interesting.

2. Hanging Plants

Alternatively, hanging plants are definitely pleasing to the eye and they can bring some life into the room.

There are many different kinds of plants you can consider to have but you can always use faux plants if you don’t want to maintain them.

You can pick out a white frame to hang them up or you can simply stick them on the wall with double-sided tape.

4. Portrait Pictures With String Lights

Following the idea above, you can choose to hang pictures of yourself and the people you love.

Arrange the string lights around them to create a beautiful arrangement and display.

5. Garlands

Flower garlands, string, or paper garlands are just something easy and pretty to make your walls look good without putting in much effort.

If you don’t have any other way to decorate the walls, then consider hanging up a garland.

6. Accent Wall

A few aesthetic rooms choose to have an accent wall. This is usually the wall where a bed is a position or the wall near it.

However, since this can make the room look busy depending on the design, I would suggest having an accent wall for a larger room instead.

For The Work Area

If you need a space in your bedroom to work, then you can also decorate this work area in keeping with the theme you’re going for. Here are a few things you will also need:

How To Create An Aesthetic Workspace

1. A Medium-Sized Desk

Pick a medium-sized desk depending on how much space you’re allocating for your work area and go for a sleek and clean design that won’t look bulky.

2. A Fluffy Rug or Patterned Under The Chair

Next, you’ll want to include a fluffy rug or a patterned carpet under the chair. This will make the area more inviting and cozy while you work.

3. Cute Clay Ornaments and Holders

Add small trinkets and ornaments on your desk to give your eyes something to look at once in a while beside your computer screen.

This will also make the space look and feel better.

4. A Lampshade

Choose a cute lampshade that stands out. If you have a color scheme going on, then try to find a lamp that is in keeping with that.

5. A Large Potted Plant

Finally, try adding a potted plant to complete the overall look but if you find that the desk starts to look too busy, then consider only choosing a few key accessories.

Alternatively, you can place a large potted plant next to the desk on the floor.

Accessories

The above items were everything you would typically need to create an aesthetic room but there are a few other items that you can consider going for that will enhance the feeling of an aesthetically pleasing room:

1. Candles

Candles are a great way to relax and unwind, especially scented candles. A lot of rooms that go with this theme tend to have a few candles lit.

2. String Lights

Having string lights are optional but they absolutely scream aesthetic room decor.

You can place the string lights around a bookshelf or make use of them by hanging them around your framed wall display.

3. Large Mirror

Most rooms require a mirror and you might want to consider including one.

The best option would be a simple mirror of any size.

If you feel like a patterned mirror will add to the overall aesthetic, then definitely consider including it!

4. Statement Lights

The very last item you will need for an aesthetic room decor is a statement light.

This will be the last item that creates harmony with the entire room decor and once you add a statement light, your room will finally be complete.

Conclusion

Although plenty of aesthetic rooms are comprised of these items listed above, you don’t necessarily have to include every single one of them.

In fact, choosing to include all of them may be way out of your budget and this will lead to frustration.

You also have to inspect the room that you currently have and determine if the space will allow you to have the majority of the items above.

For example, with a really small bedroom, it may be unrealistic to include things like a round pouf, a fluffy carpet, a large knitted throw, bookshelves, and such.

However, no matter what type of space you have, you can definitely find a way that works for you to create your dream aesthetic room decor.

Pick the items you love the most and believe will make your room look amazing and that’s all that matters.
