Having a mirror in the room is great for when you want to get ready or catch a glance to make sure your hair and clothes are neat but it’s not so great when the rules of Feng Shui suggest otherwise.

Or maybe having a mirror in the space interferes with your privacy or no longer conforms to the space’s aesthetics or style.

Whatever your reasons may be for wanting to conceal the mirror in your space, there are a few things you can immediately use that will help you cover the mirror.

In this guide, you’ll find the absolute best items you can use that have worked for me. So, if you want a quick, easy solution, I’ve got you covered.

Here’s what I recommend using:

Best Items to Use To Cover A Mirror In The Bedroom

1. Curtains or Woven Tapestry

A curtain or tapestry might be the best item you can use to cover any size mirror. It’s a cheap and easy solution to implement and a great quick fix to cover the mirror.

This provides you with the right amount of coverage to ensure the entire mirror is concealed.

For large and wide mirrors, a sheer, linen, or beaded curtain will give you the best finish however if you have a small or decent-sized mirror to cover, I recommend using a vintage, boho, or woven tapestry.

This will add a nice feature to the space without appearing awkward in any way and if you ever change your mind and you find yourself in a situation where you’d like to use the mirror again, simply remove the curtain or tapestry from the mirror and you have your mirror back.

2. Wall Decals or Stickers

To add full or partial coverage, try using stickers or wall decals. Depending on how you go about it, this should cover the mirror while giving it a cool new creative aesthetic.

I love stickers that have a leaf or floral design to them but you can go with anything.

If you don’t mind having some reflective surface, you can position the stickers so that the mirror still shows through.

3. Stones

I tried thinking of an easy and quick way to cover this small mirror without needing to remove the mirror from my wall and here’s what I came up with:

how to cover a mirror in a bedroom with rocks

Surprisingly, I think this one turned out amazing!

Here’s how it works. Grab a few stone pieces or glass stones and use a strong adhesive or glue to attach them to the mirror.

If you’re looking for a quick, temporary solution, you could try using Prestik/Blu Tack on the back of the stones but I’ve tried this as shown above and it does work except the stones can fall off.

Adding these rocks/stones to the mirror will add a significant amount of weight to the mirror, so make sure that the mirror is secured to the wall as strong as possible so that it can withstand the weight of the stones.

If you don’t want to use stones, then go with seashells instead.

Both options will look amazing and you can add this pretty new detail to your space.

4. Framed Artwork of Abstract or Modern Art

The next best item you can try is finding a suitable piece of artwork in roughly the same height and width of the mirror which you can then hang on top of that mirror.

This will fully conceal the mirror from view but you also get to have a striking artwork in place to make up for it. I love this idea the most because you can choose any artwork or image that will uplift your space and refresh the decor.

If you have trouble finding a suitable artwork to go with your space or one that will cover the mirror, you could always curate a few inspirational pictures of things you love and paste them onto the mirror to create a makeshift vision board.

5. Hanging Plants & Vines

Using plants in the home has been the common and popular recommendation in the last couple of years and for good reason.

Plants can enhance and uplift any decor and adding this small feature to your space can do wonders.

However, with this solution, we’ll have to get a bit creative to make it work.

Hanging faux plants or vines is a great option to cover the mirror. You’ll just have to arrange it in such a way that it covers a decent amount.

Once you have the plants covering most of the mirror, you’re good to go.

6. Wallpaper

If it comes to the point where you’d like the entire mirror to be completely covered, try using wallpaper to give you that seamless finish.

A printed wallpaper with a floral or geometric design will work best to ensure it appears interesting.

If you plan to cover the entire wall and mirror, you may have to remove the frame of the mirror or make sure you have a frameless mirror so that the wallpaper covers the mirror.

Otherwise, you could just cut the wallpaper to the size of the mirror and attach it so that it appears as an art piece instead.

7. Chalkboard or Wooden Panel

Now here’s a fun idea that you might be interested in. If you’d like to transform the mirror into a functional piece, you could add a chalkboard panel or use a chalkboard spray.

This is a brilliant way to repurpose the mirror into something new and useful. If you’re not so keen on having a black chalkboard, then you could install a wooden panel to go over the mirror instead.

This is also a smart and useful item to use that works well and you get to use the board to leave notes or write down a few important reminders while ensuring that the mirror is covered!

Final Thoughts

Covering a mirror is pretty simple if you know what to do.

I recently had a small round mirror that needed to be covered so I opted for using stickers and pictures to cover the reflective surface of the mirror.

Not only did it cover the mirror but it added an even better wall accessory that made my space look better.

There are plenty of creative things you can use to cover the mirror but it depends on what will work for your space.

Of course, all ideas listed above will go well with all bedrooms so it’s just a matter of deciding which one you would like to use.
