4 Best Budget-Friendly Room Decor Ideas
1. Feature Wall Designs
When it comes to adding color, brightness, and personality to a room, creating a feature wall seems to be something that can do all of the above without interfering with the structure of a room or your bank account.
Here’s the thing about a feature wall, it needs to stand out with a different shade of color or design.
What you need to consider is opting for a color that compliments the base color for the room but doesn’t blend in.
If all the walls to a room are painted white, most colors will fit perfectly as a feature wall, depending on the décor of course. But, if a room is cream or grey, then you need to find a rich or earthy, contrasting but complementary tone.
With cream, you can easily match it up with brown ice white, or teal. With grey, you can opt for steel, black, ice white, and so forth.
But, that’s not where feature walls end.
When I was painting my room, I decided to add a design to my feature wall by using the base color for the pattern.
Alternatively, if you have a budget that affords you the ability to purchase some wall tiles, you can create an exceptional feature wall, especially in the lounge or entertainment room.
Here are a few examples of feature walls with epic patterns and designs:
2. Floating Home Entertainment Units
The days of cluttering your home with traditionally large and bulky built-in units are almost dead. Nowadays, minimalistic and sleek furniture rules the world, and with good reason.
It creates a cleaner, elegant, and spacious look to a home, irrespective of the size and design.
For over a decade, we had this huge oak entertainment unit that encompassed an entire wall. It consisted of many cupboards and shelves that ended up turning into a storage unit for unnecessary junk.
It was an annoying chore to clean and it made our already small lounge feel smaller.
We finally decided that enough was enough. We got rid of that chunky entertainment unit and I searched the internet like a crazy person and settled on a design that suited our needs.
We decided to DIY it so the total cost of this entire entertainment unit was under 100 bucks!
So, if you can’t afford to buy something premade or to pay someone to make it for you, trust me, if you can get the measurements correct and have the wood supplier cut your boards according to specifications, the assembly is not all that difficult!
Here are a few examples of floating entertainment units that are outstanding.
3. Dye Material Décor Items Such As Rugs Different Colors
On the off chance that you want to make some home improvements but have neither the space, time, or money for the job, you can find other small but significant ways to change a room décor.
For instance, if you have a carpet or rug in a room, there are plenty of ways to change the color with dye as long as the initial color isn’t anything too dark.
Alternatively, if you have décor items wrapped in leather that isn’t black, you can pick up some leather dye and change the color to different shades of brown, grey, green, blue, or orange.
It’s these small but unique changes to a room décor that adds personality and class to it. Even something as small as adding gemstones to a vase makes a notable difference.
4. Add Some Plants To Your Home
You know what, this is probably the most overlooked décor idea but I think it’s the one that can make quite a difference.
Plants and flowers of any kind are beautiful. It doesn’t matter how cold or clinical a room décor can be, adding some greenery and color with plants is an instant improvement.
This is why I encourage my readers to invest just a bit of money into plants. It’s not expensive at all, especially if you grow them from scratch or purchase something from a local nursery.
What you need to consider is this. Wherever you’re placing a plant, let it be near a window for sunlight. Also, you may need to water your plants regularly and try to opt for plants that are not magnets for flies or mosquitos.
That’s about it.
Add a plant to each room, be it a succulent or something specific like a snake plant, and you’re set to go.
If you’re feeling bold, try getting your hands on a terrarium. It’s a mind-blowing feature décor idea that visitors will instantly notice and admire.
In Conclusion
There are so many little things you can do to make your home stand out and shine and I hope this post gave you a few ideas you could use.
Trust me, making an effort is sexy, even when we talk about home decor.
