DIY Diamond Pouch Keychain – Quick & Easy Sewing Project
I recently sewed a simple keyring pouch, and since I loved it so much, I wanted to try sewing another cute pouch that’s slightly different in design. This diamond-shaped keyring pouch is just as great as the first one!
It’s simple and cute, but also really easy to make. The design is also quite interesting, as it’s a patchwork project. However, I love that it all came together in the end, which is what makes this small pouch so special for me.
If you want to sew this exact pouch, I put together this detailed sewing tutorial that you can follow along with.

It’s also beginner-friendly and a quick sewing project, too. You can easily make a few in just an hour or so.

Instructions

Steps 1-2: Turn the fabric strip piece over to the wrong side and bring the two sides together to meet in the center.
Step 3: Fold the piece in half again.
Step 4: Head over to the machine and sew the strip close to the edge.
Step 5: Thread the strip through the keyring and fold it in half to create a loop.
Step 6: Sew the two ends together, and your keyring should now be secured. Set this aside for now.

Step 7: Place your back fabric and batting together. You can pin the piece together in the center.
Step 8: Grab your first patterned fabric square and fold it into a triangle. Right side facing up.
Step 9: Repeat this for the second piece as well. You should now have 2 triangle pieces for the front of your zipper pouch.
Step 10. Grab your zip and place the first triangle piece on the edge of the zip as shown in step 10.
Step 11: Go ahead and sew the pieces together.
Step 12: Fold the fabric over.

Step 13: Add a topstitch.
Step 14: Place the piece down and mark the other end of the zip. This will help create a guideline to ensure the pieces match.
Step 15: Sew the second piece to the zip as shown in step 10. Match the fabric on the marked points. (You can reference the video above if you’re unsure what to do.) Don’t forget to add a topstitch to this side as well.
Step 16: Your final top piece should look like this.
Step 17: Grab your back piece (step 7) and place the top piece over that.
Step 18: Make sure the zip aligns with the corner of the under fabric piece as shown.

Step 19: Handstitch the top of the zip and remove the excess top fabric from the sides to match the back piece.
Step 20: Grab your keyring loop and place it on the zip (the keyring should be facing in).
Step 21: Take your final patterned square and place it on top. Use a sewing clip to hold the pieces together.
Step 22: Mark out one corner of the square. Don’t sew this section as we’ll use it to turn the piece to the right side soon.
Step 23: Start stitching the piece using a 0.5 cm seam. Be careful when stitching over the zip as this can break your needle. You could skip sewing over this and handstitch the zipper ends if you want to avoid this.
Step 24: Remove the piece from the machine and use the unstitched section to turn the pouch to the right side.

Step 25: Simply insert your thumb and finger and pull the right side through the opening.
Step 26: Use a pen or your closed scissors to open out the corners of the pouch.
Step 27: Fold the raw edges of the opening in.
Step 28: Handsew the opening closed however you prefer, but I like to use the ladder stitch method. This gives a lovely and easy invisible stitch.
And your keyring zipper pouch is finally complete!
Here’s what the front and back look like:

It’s SO cute! I love it. Especially how all these different patterned fabrics come together to create this lovely artistic zipper pouch you won’t find in a store.
