One of my favorite places to spend time is in the garden. I love how peaceful and serene the garden is and it instantly relaxes me.

Since I tend to spend most of my time here, I’m always searching for new ways to improve the garden so I can increase my enjoyment and a good way to do this is to make the garden look amazing.

Now there are many ways you can decorate the garden but what I found is the easiest way to do so is to decorate the garden fence.

There are loads of things you can hang on the fence that will be a fantastic addition to your garden.

These include creating beautiful flower displays or scenes with planter boxes and objects. You could also hang items like mason jar lights, string lights, or wooden and metal signs. But if you want to add a further, more practical use to it, you could make an attempt at a DIY project such as a hanging herb garden that will look perfect mounted on the garden fence.

Now, these ideas are just a drop in the ocean.

For a full list of ideas and things you can hang on the garden fence, here’s everything you can consider trying and using:

Things To Hang On A Garden Fence

1. Mason Jar Lights

I’m putting this idea first because I feel like this one is absolutely amazing and it can transform the way your fence looks during the day or night and that’s hanging these mason jar lights.

At night, you can turn them on and watch how beautiful they look mounted. If you grab a few of these, you can hang them in a row and this will create a lovely display.

This idea can also be a great DIY project. Grab a piece of wood, a mason jar, and string lights.

Hook the mason jar to the wooden panel and then place the fairy lights on the inside. You can then also add some faux flowers to stick out from the top. It’s that easy.

2. Planter Boxes

The next idea is just as good as the first one and you can do a lot with it.

In keeping with the whole garden vibe, you can create or use planter boxes/baskets and hang them on the fence either in rows or columns depending on how many planter boxes you have.

3. Framed Boxes With Succulents

Similar to the idea above, you can create beautiful framed boxes and place a few succulents in them.

Then mount them onto the fence and you’ll be impressed by how awesome your fence looks after doing this.

4. String Lights

For a more simple idea, you could just go for hanging rows of string lights on your fence. It won’t cost you much and it will still make your garden look great.

Also, if you tend to spend afternoons outside, then string lights will make you feel more cozy and comfortable.

5. Pot Plants

Hanging a row of pot plants in either small or medium-sized terra cotta pots or even reusing cans and filling them with plants will make your fence look great.

You can even plant flowers in different colors or for a less maintenance option, you could use faux flowers so you wouldn’t have to worry about watering or making sure they have enough sunlight to grow.

6. A Window Scene

This is a diy project I’ve come across that is quite unique and exciting.

The idea here is to grab an old window frame and hang it on the fence.

Then you’ll want to add other objects and accessories to decorate within that window frame by including things like pot plants, ornaments, and signs.

7. Birdhouse

If you want to make your garden fence look more attractive and invite birds over for a bit, hang up a birdhouse or two on the fence.

You can create a custom birdhouse made out of wood or other materials and this will look great hanging on the garden fence.

8. Herb Garden

For a more useful alternative, you may want to consider hanging a herb garden container that you can use to plant your most used herbs.

This is both a fun activity and a practical one that ends up looking amazing in the end.

But it doesn’t necessarily have to be just herbs, you can choose a vegetable or flower you really would like to grow and use this space to do so.

9. Mounted Crates

For a cheaper option and easier method to create shelves or boxes, you could always consider picking up a few wooden crates and mounting them on the fence.

In these crates, you can fill them with either pot plants or other decor objects that you think will make this display look good.

10. Wooden Signs

Signs are always recommended when looking for easy things to hang and wooden signs are definitely pleasing to the eye.

You can find plenty of different designs, shapes, and sizes with specific words or sentences written.

There are also fun ways to create custom signs to hang on the garden fence that will accompany each of the previous ideas on this list.

11. Butterflies

Are you looking for a cuter option? Then why not hang a few butterflies on the garden fence.

To make things even more special, you can run them entirely across the fence in a design.

Or you can grab a set of this awesome dragonfly wall decor item that is especially designed for the outdoors:

12. Mirror

The next option would be to choose a stylish outdoor mirror you can hang. This will make the space feel more trendy and it’s also a simpler option to hang.

13. Vertical Flower Displays

In terms of flower displays, creating a vertical one that runs down the garden fence will be the best decision you can make.

These vertical flower displays will surely make your entire garden look outstanding and it will add a modern appeal to it.

14. Plates and Dishes

Try adding a vintage charm to your backyard by hanging plates or dishes on the garden fence.

You can arrange them in a particular style and way that showcase them and also choose plates with a pretty design that will stand out.

15. Old Metal Signs

If you’d prefer something more rustic, then consider hanging an old metal sign on the fence.

This could be a cool sign that says ‘Garden’ but you can also add a few flower pots or combine this idea with the flower displays or window scene idea.

16. Rainboot Filled With Plants

Rain boots Filled With Plants

This idea is super creative and fun to do as a weekend project.

It typically involves grabbing a pair of rainboots and filling them up with either plants or flowers and then hanging them on the fence.

The end result looks stunning, making it one you shouldn’t definitely consider trying.

17. Ladder Planter

Technically, this idea isn’t really about directly hanging the ladder on the fence but you can grab a wooden ladder and attach it to the fence.

Then you’ll want to use the steps of the ladder to place objects, flower pots, or plants to create an exquisite display.

18. Woven Basket

For a different option to planter boxes or wooden crates, you could try hanging woven baskets on the garden fence.

These baskets look really cute and you can easily fill them up with soil and plants or flowers.

19. Sculptures

The last option I would recommend is to pick small sculptures or accessories to hang on the fence.

This could be things like metal stars maybe and you could arrange them on the fence as a display. You could even drape string lights around them to make it more extravagant.

Final Thoughts

In all honesty, I was really impressed by the brilliant options there were to hang on a garden fence.

Almost all of these ideas are sure to make the space look incredible no matter which one you actually go for.

However, what’s even better about these ideas is that you don’t even need to spend that much to decorate the fence.

A lot of these ideas can even be made with your own two hands and that makes this even more special.

I do hope you found this list of ideas helpful and if there are other rooms in your home that you need to hang things, you might be interested in seeing these topics that will help you make the best choice:
