The Essentials For A Stunningly Decorated Bathroom
Before we can touch on several different upgrades for your bathroom decor, you ought to spend a little time understanding what makes up the core of a good bathroom.
You have 2 distinct areas:
- The Wash Area
- The Bath/Shower Area
And in the following sections, let’s take a closer look at each of these areas.
The Wash Area
The wash area is often the most used portion of the bathroom. Whether you’re spending time in front of the wash area getting ready for a day of work or you’re entertaining guests who need to freshen up, the wash area requires some fundamental characteristics.
You need a gorgeous mirror. The size and shape are completely dependent on your preference and the space available but a mirror is non-negotiable.
The second most important item in the wash area is none other than the washbasin.
I’m very particular about washbasins but that’s not a big problem because it is built around the accessories such as the faucet for the tap, the soap and dispensary holders, and the under cupboard (if any).
Let’s take a look at a few examples of beautiful washroom mirrors and basins for a good idea of what is and will continue to be in style:
Upon scrutiny of all the above images, what did you notice?
Here’s what I noted.
Irrespective of the material used or layout, an essential component of all of the bathroom decor and washbasin decor images above is that they’re very refined. When I say refined, I’m referring to how structured everything is. They are fairly compact, and the mirrors, basins, and faucets are centralized.
There’s uniformity in the design.
Essentially, clean designs are favored over fussy and extravagant layouts. The idea behind a good wash area is convenience with a touch of style.
As long as the layout is clean, the arrangement of the key items is centralized and everything is relatively similar in size and dimension to each other, your wash area will look good, even with an extremely minimalistic design.
What I have also noticed and encouraged is using a nice-looking faucet.
You could have a great basin, mirror, marble top counter, and all the frills that come along with it but if the faucet looks cheap and sad, the entire thing just doesn’t tie together as amazingly as it could.
Another notable idea is installing either a light around your mirror or facing down towards the basin.
This creates a rich and warm feel while drawing attention to your wash area. It’s a simple but beautiful idea to incorporate into your bathroom.
I would opt for a warm white light that encompasses my round mirror.
I know some of these wash areas have wooden cupboards and basins but I’m not all that excited about that because of the eventual degradation of wood when exposed to water. No matter how much waterproofing you do, eventually, it’s going to impact the wood, especially when the basin is sitting on it.
I’d opt for some type of granite if it’s within the budget.
The Shower Area
Nothing beats a good, hot, and relaxing shower or bath after a long day. It’s the most beloved part of any bathroom and it ought to be given the respect it deserves.
Here, attention to detail is also important.
Depending on your taste, you want to build a bath or shower area that achieves a certain look. Simple, clinical, spa-like, natural and earthy, rustic, or elegant are but some of the many different decor ideas for a shower or bathtub.
When you are working with a shower, you want to pay special attention to the flooring and the overall size or shape of the cubicle.
I want to also draw your attention to something that ought to be considered when designing your bathroom, cleaning shower tiles. If you opt to tile your shower area, be prepared to regularly scrub and clean those tiles even if you do a good job grouting. Dirt and grime will inevitably build up.
Alternatively, you can opt for waterproof wall panels of high quality and that can save you the trouble of scrubbing tiles.
That’s the only trade-off in my opinion.
If you decide to remodel your shower, I found a quick step-by-step system to do so without wasting money by following the wrong order.
- Step 1 – Demo the old shower or tub out.
- Step 2 – Set your shower base and install your value and drain assembly.
- Step 3 – Install a wall backer system for your tile or grout-free shower wall system.
- Step 4 – Install your tile shower or wall panels on the backer board.
- Step 5 – Hook up your plumbing fixtures and install your shower glass or curtain.
Also, concerning the actual shower, you have several different options in terms of showerheads.
I like a rainfall showerhead, the bigger the better.
There’s also the option of having a shower that is mounted to the wall or one that is handheld. This completely boils down to personal preference.
I do, however, believe that handheld shower systems are quite outdated at this point.
Honestly, the amount of shower decor ideas available is countless. It all depends on your taste and preference.
Bathroom decor isn’t necessarily cheap which is why the rest of this guide will focus on a ton of DIY decor ideas that will allow you to recreate the bathroom of your dreams at a fraction of the cost.

An Overview Of Different Bathroom Decor Ideas:
Bathroom Art
When it comes to art, you can never go wrong. Even though it’s a bathroom, there’s nothing stopping you from decorating your walls with a painting or a selection of your favorite quotes.
Another great idea is to add small arts and crafts updates to existing furniture.
For example, add a sea shell border to your mirrors, pebbles, or wooden frames.
It’s the little details that add depth to a bathroom.
Painted Feature Wall
If you’ve noticed, feature walls are a popular trend in the world of decor because of how they can uplift an entire room. The idea behind a feature wall is to create a visible contrast that draws attention.
You have quite a few options at your disposal. For instance, the wall in which your vanity is placed or bathtub could be considered the feature wall. So, painting it a contrasting but complementary color would create a visual treat.
Alternatively, you could add a different set of tiles or stone to your feature wall if the budget permits you to do so.
There’s also the option of adding wall art to your feature wall as well as beautiful storage and display shelves.
Accessories
Like any room, even your bathroom would benefit from accessories, especially if you want to avoid a clinical-looking ‘mess’.
Everything from rugs, soap dispensers, faucets and storage containers all add to the decor.
