13 Garage Organization Ideas That Will Solve All Your Storage Problems
Organizing your garage is no easy feat especially when you have years worth of supplies, goods and junk stored everywhere and in no particular order. Things can get out of hand really quickly, trust me, I’m talking from experience.
Earlier this year, I helped one of my besties clear out hey garage and organize it afresh. We got rid of old stuff that wasn’t needed, arranged useful and small items in boxes and got rid of larger damaged items (like a fridge).
Her garage was transformed and full of space. We put together an organizational system that she has used throughout this year to keep her garage clean, well stocked and organized.
Since it’s year end, I decided to put together a list of garage organization ideas that you can also enter the new year with a garage that looks freakin’ awesome.

Garage Organization Ideas To Simplify Your Life
1. Pegboard Tools Organizer
From a very young age, I made a mental note that my father is a jack of all trades. I’ve seen him do everything from repairs to building a home (quite exceptionally, if I may add).
But, one thing he isn’t good at is being organized. He had tools all over the place.
When he needed something, it meant digging through the toolbox and random areas in the garage in hopes of finding it and this often left him annoyed and frustrated.
This pegboard is the perfect solution for that. Everything is at your disposal, easy to find and is organized incredibly well.
2. DIY Wooden Garage Shelving
via ana-white
If you’re looking for a cost-effective solution to shelving and you have access to a drill, you’d be surprised how easy and simple it is to put together this wooden shelf.
It’s strong, sturdy and a wonderful way to store garage essentials in crates or plastic boxes.
3. Sliding Storage Boxes On Your Ceiling
via familyhandyman
I absolutely love this idea because it’s so unorthodox. So much of ceiling space is usually wasted but in this case, you can actually make use of it with these sliding crates.
Thing is, you need to be sure that the beams and brackets are reinforced to prevent any mishap from happening.
And if you use the same color crates/baskets, it can actually look quite cool.
4. Tape Dispenser
When you find yourself stuck in a sticky situation, don’t go running around the house like a headless chicken searching for some tape when you can create a functional tape dispenser in your garage.
This DIY is quite fun to make and is very useful for people who are always making new things or fixing old things around the house.
5. Extension Cord Hanger
One thing that really grates on my nerves is tangled cables lying all over the place.
When you need an extension cord, that’s the time when you have to spend like 15 minutes just trying to untangle the damn thing
To save yourself the trouble as I have, install this hanging extension cord holder to a wall. You can find everything you need at a local hardware store and it’s fairly cheap to make.
6. Spray Paint Storage
via polishedhabitat
While we’re on the topic of mounting things onto the wall, another useful idea is to install storage containers on your wall.
In this one, it’s used to store different spray paints (which is extremely handy for me given that I’m always experimenting with different craft ideas) but you can use it to store any number of things.
From brushes to cleaning agents, this idea is pretty damn versatile.
7. Screwdriver Coat Rack
via homemade-modern
On the off chance that you don’t have a ton of tools or hardware around the place but want a more accessible screwdriver holder for those days when you’re installing or removing something in your home, this shelf is perfect.
All you really need is a plank that can be mounted on the wall. Drill holes into the plank using a large size bit and you can store as many screwdrivers as needed.
8. Bucket Hose Storage
Another pain in the bottom item to keep tangle free are hose pipes. I wish I could have taken a picture of how terribly tangled and messy ours used to be.
Why? Because it was just dumped in our storage hatch. Turns out, you could easily create a
9. Mounted Slat Wall Organization
via abeautifulmess
I wanted to include an entire wall arrangement of storage devices that you could use as a guideline for your garage.
Just because it’s a rarely visited room doesn’t mean it can’t look upbeat, lively and attractive. Most importantly, completely functional!
10. Shelving For Removable Bins
I know a lot of the people who visit my blog are crafty, smart and really resourceful entrepreneurs who have managed to start at home businesses.
Although this garage organization idea is for actual tools and equipment for home maintenance and so forth, it can also be a wonderful storage and organization idea for you guys who use the garage as a work space to create your products.
11. Cheap And Practical Workbench Storage
via instructables
I would never compile a list of ideas or hacks without including a cost effective solution which is exactly what you see here.
We all buy canned food, instead of throwing those cans out, just repurpose them as storage containers that are mounted on a pegboard in your garage. I would go one step further by slapping on some labels to each container.
12. Fishing Pole Ceiling Storage Idea
via instructables
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’ve never fished a day in my life. I want to try it, not so much for catching fish but to dip my fingers into a relaxing meditative time out on a lake or the ocean.
Now, if I were to get into it, I’d want a space to store my fishing rods in a nonintrusive manner. Which is why this ceiling storage idea is fantastic.
It’s easy to make and is something that will prove to be useful for years to come. Also, there’s rarely any maintenance or cleaning needed once you’ve installed the planks.
13. Wall Tool Holders
via woodgears
Last, but certainly not least, I’ve got another wooden based wall storage system. It’s more or less an extension of the idea I’ve shared with you a few ideas back.
What I particularly like about this one is that it takes into account larger and heavier items like hammers and electrical machines.
Follow the guidelines below and you’ll be done by nightfall with your new tool holders.
